Reasoning behind Merchant Pot Turbo

I know that Merchant Pot Turbo focuses in on Magical Merchant, but not everything deals with having a greater chance on getting that one card. For example, for a 40 card build, the probability of getting Magical Merchant is:

[1 - (27/40)(26/39)(25/38)(24/37)(23/36)(22/35)] => around 92.3%

In regards to a 60 card build, the probability of getting Magical Merchant is:

[1 - (47/60)(46/59)(45/58)(44/57)(43/56)(42/55)] => around 78.6%

From logic, obviously the 40 card build is better at getting Magical Merchant; however, whenever I get a problem of getting hand clogged by having 5 ways of getting Merchant, then I fail to get the fatal blow in that match, and the match drags on into my opponent's victory, since I would have nothing left (besides the Manticore of Darkness where I discard a Beast-type monster, but that's irrelevant if your opponent already blasted it by a Black Rose Dragon destruction effect.

Not to mention, Six Samurai being able to roam around freely, being able to utilize The True Six Samurai - Mizuho's effect to waste whatever defense you have, and when I mean defense, I mean the only move that you can make really with this deck. Without being able to use Magical Merchant, the deck becomes dead in the water.

There is a plus side though. By being able to decrease your chance of getting Magical Merchant slightly, you can add more cards to your deck that can defend you, just in case, the mill of Magical Merchant goes in your favor.

...Not to mention, having 57 monsters in your deck, chances are that you would mill about a quarter to a half of your deck at times. (Sometimes, you get Pot of Avarice early, which makes you wait a couple of turns to get a good mill.)

Searching out Magical Merchant is no problem. You have Gokipon, Danipon, Rai-Mei, and Sangan ready to search him out. So, in total, if you add 3 of Gokipon, Danipon, and Rai-Mei to your deck, you'll have 10 searchers for Magical Merchant.

So, in short, it all depends on the mill.

Gravekeepers (1)

I guess with a deck list first, then go into a small discussion of what my main focus is. Here's the list:

2x Gravekeeper's Assailant
3x Gravekeeper's Commandant
2x Gravekeeper's Descendant
2x Gravekeeper's Guard
2x Gravekeeper's Recruiter
2x Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier
3x Gravekeeper's Spy
3x Gravekeeper's Visionary

Allure of Darkness
3x Gravekeeper's Stele
3x Hand Destruction
Monster Reborn
3x Necrovalley
2x Terraforming

Call of the Haunted
3x Magician's Circle
3x Rite of Spirit
Torrential Tribute

First off, you're probably wondering why I have Monster Reborn and Call of the Haunted in here. I put it in here, because of two reasons. First reason is if I draw it on the first draw, I can go defensive, wait until my opponent acts, then respond accordingly next turn. Second reason is if Necrovalley is no longer on the field, I won't be at a disadvantage with not having a back-up defense, and the deck becomes less reliant on Necrovalley.

Now, the reason behind this deck is Gravekeeper's Visionary. It's real easy to get it out early. Let me explain after pointing out this:

Gravekeeper's Visionary + Hand Destruction + Rite of Spirit/Call of the Haunted/Monster Reborn

At first, originally, this was my thought, but upon closer look, they are Spellcasters. Since, Gravekeeper Visionary has 2000 ATK and it's a Spellcaster type, you can use this card:

Magician's Circle
[Trap Card]
Activate only when a Spellcaster-Type monster declares an attack. Each player Special Summons 1 Spellcaster-Type monster with 2000 or less ATK from their Deck in face-up Attack Position.

Maybe, if you considering making a Gravekeeper deck, don't forget the basics, and utilize whatever you can.

Synchro Fusionist (4)

Throughout testing, I finally figured out something is wrong. I needed to improve my chances on getting Junk Synchron on my first draw.
  • First draw: 1-(37/40)(36/39)(35/38)(34/37)(33/36)(32/35) => roughly 39.4%
I'll just elaborate it, by asking this: "Do you think the likelihood of getting a Junk Synchron in your hand is good or bad?" Now, let's add Reinforcements of the Army and Tuning
  • First draw: 1-(33/40)(32/39)(31/38)(30/37)(29/36)(28/35) => roughly 71.1%
So, the likelihood of getting the deck function relies on the fact that you need to have some sort of plan when building this deck, otherwise, you won't have any chance of success. Just thought I might elaborate on that note on why I changed the deck greatly. Yes, this game does depend on some luck, but if you prepare yourself, you'll be able to get more consistent results.

~~~
For other news, I've been trying to convince myself to make a new deck, so when I do, and it's as good as I can get it, I'll post it on here.
Also, I wasn't sure what to put up here, other than that, probability does matter, if your deck revolves around a card or 2 cards. If my math is wrong in any way, let me know so I can fix it accordingly. This is my first time doing it in a while, thinking in this aspect.
~~~

EDIT: Thanks to D-Slayer and his work as well. Odds of getting a card is important if your strategy depends on that one card, or so. So, yeah, if you have the time, take the time to read his blog.

EDIT: Thanks to the person who commented on correcting my math. Also, if anyone asks, I'm currently trying out Google Reader. If you are wondering why my icon disappeared, that's the case. I'm just a faceless icon on your blog, for now.

Synchro Fusionist (3) and a Small Reminder

What I failed to realize when building this deck out, is the lack of getting it out on the first draw, so I had to rebuild it strictly to get Junk Synchron out faster. So, here's the new list:

3x Apprentice Magician
3x Breaker the Magical Warrior
2x Doppel Warrior
Glow-Up Bulb
3x Junk Synchron
3x Magical Merchant
2x Magicat

2x Synchro Fusionist

3x Hand Destruction
3x Miracle Synchro Fusion
Monster Reborn
2x Pot of Avarice
Reinforcement of the Army
3x The Warrior Returning Alive
3x Tuning

3x Royal Decree

Extra Deck

Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste
3x Supreme Arcanite Magician
Ally of Justice Catastor
2x Black Rose Dragon
Goyo Guardian
Iron Chain Dragon

Also, for Genex Hero (2), if anyone missed the updates on that deck, I made updates as I went along with the suggestions I got, and the discussion in the comments of that page. If you failed to miss it, here's a link to that post: http://dangerascend.blogspot.com/2011/01/genex-hero-2.html

Also, is it me, or did anyone else notice that you can reborn Elemental Hero Neos off Skyscraper 2 - Hero City's effect? Thanks to the Fishborg Blaster suggestion, Genex Undine was Level 3, so I got another easy access to a Level 8 Synchro Summoning.

Anyway, enjoy!

A small note, I'll be working on this deck a bit more, if I need to update it, I'll make a new post.

EDIT: I lied. I'm working on something else on top of this and there's not really that much adjustment to it, so I'll modify this post. (Updated: January 23, 2011, 2:03 P.M.)

Genex Hero (1)

Instead of chatting about a Deck, I'm going to discuss on a strategy.

Genex Undine
***  Attribute: Water
[Aqua/Effect]
When this card is Normal Summoned, you can send 1 WATER monster from your Deck to your Graveyard to add 1 "Genex Controller" from your Deck to your hand.
ATK: 1200  DEF: 600

The reason behind my title is due to this card. This card can mill off a WATER monster to get a Level 3 Tuner monster. At first, you'd think to use it with such cards as Treeborn Frog, but at a closer glance, you'll begin to realize that you can dump such cards as Elemental Hero Ocean and Elemental Hero Bubbleman. Why'd you choose Elemental Hero Bubbleman? It's because if you are in a top decking situation and you were nuked by Black Rose Dragon, the 2 extra cards might do you some good, and with this deck's synergy needing to have field presence and most of them requiring a card to discard from your Hand, eventually, you will run out of cards.

Unfortunately, that won't due for an explanation because it's not consistent and people can't predict that far ahead, so they don't overextend as much. So, this card becomes forgotten.

In any case, Elemental Hero Absolute Zero is quite known to people, and some of those people run that card as their main Fusion in Genex Hero along with the Synchro Summons that it provides, but how can you get an instant 2500 easily without Future Fusion? How can you bring out such cards without going -1 or -2 right off the bat? So, let's go into this a bit further.

Elemental Hero Prisma
****  Attribute: Light
[Warrior/Effect]
Show a Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck to your opponent. Send a Fusion Material Monster listed on that Fusion Monster from your Deck to your Graveyard to treat this card's name as that of the monster sent by this effect until the End Phase of this turn. This effect can only be used once per turn.
ATK: 1700  DEF: 1100

But, why him? He can't do much except dump a card that you can use for an Elemental Hero monster, typically, and you can't use his effect on Elemental Hero Absolute Zero, so why bother? Ok, now, let me show you why I suggested Elemental Hero Bubbleman as a second purpose.

Elemental Hero Mariner
*****  Attribute: Water
[Warrior/Fusion/Effect]
"Elemental Hero Bubbleman" + "Elemental Hero Avian"
This monster cannot be Special Summoned except by Fusion Summon. If you have any face-down cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone, this card can attack your opponent's Life Points directly.
ATK: 1400  DEF: 1000

With Prisma's effect, you can dump Elemental Hero Bubbleman to your Graveyard to easily get access for an Elemental Hero monster or a WATER monster in your Graveyard when you use Miracle Fusion for your Elemental Hero Absolute Zero. But then, how can we search out such cards easily? Elemental Hero Stratos and E - Emergency Call are the answers.

Thanks to LightGrunty for providing excellent Youtube duels that inspired me to consider making Genex Hero. Hopefully, I'll be able to provide a deck list soon, but other than that, enjoy!

Synchro Fusionist (2)

Just an extension of the strategy as well. Obviously Tech Genus Wonder Librarian has a big word in for the Spellcaster Synchro needed for Supreme Arcanite Magician, but the focus surrounds 3 cards:

Junk Synchron
***  Attribute: Dark
[Warrior/Tuner/Effect]
When this card is Normal Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 Level 2 or lower monster from your Graveyard in face-up Defense Position. That monster's effect(s) is negated.
ATK: 1300  DEF: 500

This is the main Tuner of the deck. It brings out Synchro Fusionist or Magicat for more Spell Card usage, or Just fuel for Synchro Summoning more than once per turn.

Synchro Fusionist
**  Attribute: Dark
[Spellcaster/Effect]
If this card is sent to the Graveyard as a Synchro Material Monster, you can add 1 Spell Card from your Deck to your hand with "Polymerization" or "Fusion" in the card name, except "Diffusion Wave-Motion".
ATK: 800  DEF: 600

In this deck, this card is pretty much the searcher for Miracle Synchro Fusion. If I have none in my Hand or Set on my Field, then I can use this effect to bring out one of them easily.

Magicat
**  Attribute: Light
[Spellcaster/Effect]
If this card is sent to the Graveyard for the Synchro Summon of a Spellcaster-Type Synchro Monster, you can return 1 Spell Card from your Graveyard to the top of your Deck.
ATK: 600  DEF: 500

In this deck, this card is used more than Synchro Fusionist, if there's a Miracle Synchro Fusion I could use if I get enough materials in the Graveyard. When that occurs, if I need to recycle Miracle Synchro Fusion, I could, but I would rather recycle cards such as The Warrior Returning Alive or Monster Reborn, for instance, to get more out onto the Field when nothing else seems to work.

~~~
For the Extra Deck, I consider spreading it out further, however, I'm keeping Tech Genus Hyper Librarian at 3, since it's a helpful draw engine for this deck. So here's what I'm going to test out for the Extra Deck (It's only on paper thus far, but I should be able to in the next few days.):
Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste
3x Supreme Arcanite Magician
Ally of Justice Catastor
2x Black Rose Dragon
Goyo Guardian
Iron Chain Dragon
Junk Warrior
Red Dragon Archfiend
Stardust Dragon
3x Tech Genus Hyper Librarian
Assassin of the Night Sky - Lurlene
Time to post a card.
All art shown on these cards goes to the various artists on their respectful websites. Any cards made were made from a program called Magic Set Editor 2 and www.yugiohcardmaker.net. Assassin of the Night Sky - Lurlene
*******  Attribute: Dark
[Warrior/Ritual]
This card can only be Ritual Summoned by the effect of "Contract with the Abyss". Once per turn, during your Main Phase, by sending 1 card from your Hand to your Graveyard, you can look at your opponent's Hand. If there's a monster in your opponent's Hand with the same Attribute as a monster on your Field, discard that monster.
ATK: 2600  DEF: 1500
Regardless, enjoy!
Synchro Fusionist (1)
Thanks to Iceman Hotty for this innovated post on his blog. So, I made a deck:
Monsters (18)
3x Apprentice Magician
2x Doppel Warrior
Glow-Up Bulb
3x Junk Synchron
3x Magical Merchant
2x Magicat
Morphing Jar
Plaguespreader Zombie
2x Synchro Fusionist
Magics (13)
3x Hand Destruction
3x Miracle Synchro Fusion
Monster Reborn
2x Pot of Avarice
Reinforcement of the Army
3x The Warrior Returning Alive
Traps (9)
3x Apple of Frigg
Call of the Haunted
3x Limit Reverse
Mirror Force
Torrential Tribute
Extra Deck
2x Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste
3x Supreme Arcanite Magician
2x Black Rose Dragon
2x Iron Chain Dragon
3x Stardust Dragon
3x Tech Genus Hyper Librarian
The common sense of this deck is...what to do with the gained cards? Obviously, Junk Synchron is the basis of the deck.
  1. Junk Synchron + Synchro Fusionist = Tech Genus Hyper Librarian (with Miracle Synchro Fusion off Synchro Fusionist) or Junk Synchron + Magicat = Tech Genus Hyper Librarian (adding a Spell to the top of the Deck off Magicat's effect)
  2. Use The Warrior Returning Alive.
  3. Junk Synchron + Magicat = another Tech Genus Hyper Librarian (adding The Warrior Returning Alive to the top of the Deck off Magicat's effect and if another Tech Genus Hyper Librarian is on the Field, options widen quite a bit)
  4. Lather, rinse, and repeat.
It's what I need to consider before expanding the Extra Deck further. Any suggestions? Comment, fixes, discuss, rate, thoughts. Enjoy!
~~~

My next ideas for posting involve the following:
  • Working on Majestic Accel Buster. I notice a rise in interest for Attempt 1, so I think I can do better.
  • Working on Synchro Fusionist (this post). After I get a feel for it, I may expand it further to cover more. For example, my Extra Deck is specific, but while I work on it, I hope to loosen it.
  • More Yu-gi-oh! customs.
Just thought I tell you my plans for the next few days.

Hecate of the Rituals - Rivka
******  Attribute: Light
[Spellcaster/Effect]
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by sending 1 Ritual Spell Card from your Hand to your Graveyard. When this card is destroyed, select 1 Level 6 or below Ritual Monster in your Deck. Special Summon it to your side of the Field. (This Special Summon is treated as a Ritual Summon.)
ATK: 1600   DEF: 1600

Maiden of Fragrance - Jayna
******  Attribute: Wind
[Spellcaster/Effect]
You can discard this card from your Hand to add 1 "Black Garden" from your Deck to your Hand. When this card is destroyed by battle, select 1 Plant-type monster in your Graveyard. Add the selected card to your Hand.
ATK: 2400  DEF: 1500

The ??? under the set name abbreviation...I'm not sure what to do with them, to be honest. Regardless, enjoy!

Dark Desertapir

Wikipedia Link: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Desertapir

You guys are probably wondering why am I discussing this? Well, for starters, I think it's an interesting tech card inside a Beast Deck. Now, let's talk about the Pros and Cons.

Pros:

Cons:
  • Not really a good card on it's own, so it can't really stay on the field for more than a turn or so.
It makes you consider making a Beast Deck yourself since some players depend on the Graveyard for support. For competitive use, I suggest to side it, however, if you figure out a way to use the effect, then by all means, go with it. Personally, I think it's times like these, where Soul Release is viable.

Anyway, enjoy! Feel free to comment if I made a mistake or if you want to discuss something further.
