Yu-gi-oh! - Ban List Discussion (Short Post)

If anyone is wondering what I'm going to say about the ban list is going to be a typical response on everyone's minds, and it'll be that the top decks will be hit, the new cards will replace the top decks, and the cycle continues.

What I do is not worry about it and try to make consistent decks that work against people on Dueling Network, because 9 times out of 10, while someone else is deeply regretting getting a certain card, due to it being banned, you can potentially use cards that have the same consistent levels as last format's, and still face against the new meta that appears.

Anyway, just typing out my thoughts here about the Yu-gi-oh! Ban List, and I'm going to enjoy working on guides to help players use certain deck types that they are interested in, better.

Yu-gi-oh! March 2012 TCG/OCG Ban List Discussion

Well, since the majority of the people commented about the list, I will do the same and share my two cents on the subject. First, the list (From Shriek. If you want to view it to see if it is a legit list, go here.):

NEWLY FORBIDDEN:
Glow-Up Bulb
Spore
Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
Trap Dustshoot

NEWLY LIMITED:
Tech Genus Striker
Agent of Mystery, Earth

NEWLY SEMI-LIMITED:
Marshmallon
Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
Emergency Teleport
Shien's Smoke Signal
Level Limit Area B
Torrential Tribute
Ultimate Offering
Reborn Tengu

NEWLY UNLIMITED:
Call of the Haunted

My thoughts are as follows:
  • Agents and Tech Genus got hit.
  • Plant Engine is dead with Spore and Glow-Up Bulb gone.
  • Inzektors, Wind-Ups, and Rescue Rabbit decks remain untouched.
It's not much to say about how, but what will you do to counteract the situation?

Now that you saw the Card Discussion on selected cards for Dark World, I'll ask you this: "What decks would be playable this format?" List would be as follows:
  • Six Samurai
  • Gravekeepers
  • Dark World (with or without Skill Drain)
  • Hieroglyphs
  • ...and a few others.
And for the OCG, many new cards would be printed that could possibly overtake Wind-Ups/Inzektors. It's true that more people will quit because of the new list, but it doesn't mean that we can still have fun in whatever decks we use.

~~~
Now that the OCG Ban List is out, decks can be made to adapt to the new situation, which means I'll be able to do March 2012 OCG Ban List Deck Building soon.
Several comments
I've begin to notice that people are discussing ban lists and that. I have a general comment to what people think should or shouldn't return:
  • If players think that Thousand Eyes Restrict should go to 1. Everyone would be running Formula Synchron and Instant Fusion, because we already have a Tuner that's reusable when it hits the Graveyard. (Glow-Up Bulb)
  • As for stuff that I should think that should be hit in an archetype sense (I don't really pull specifics on specific archetype cards, because it feels unnecessary)
    • Insecters - Why? Because their archetype can net you pluses like mad. It really becomes ridiculous in both the early game (first turn) or late game.
    • Wind-Ups - Why? First turn Hunter loop. They need to lower the consistency of that loop, so that it doesn't happen constantly first turn.
    • Agents - Why? Still constantly good, and as a result, it should get hit by the ban list.
  • As for single cards that I see should be banned or limited, I put in the separate section for it. Here it is:
    • Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning - Why? It's being used in nearly every single deck out there, so I'm figuring that it'll be banned on March 1st, 2012.
    • Leviair the Sea Dragon - Why? It has been used in too many combinations, that it would be hit. Also, Rank 3s are the easiest Xyzs to summon, unfortunately, so I see it being limited, if not banned, coming March 1st, 2012.
I'm just stating my views of what should be hit on the ban list. There's no way to know what'll get removed, until the ban list reveals itself.
The Polls:
Sorry that I haven't gotten a chance to comment about this yet, but here's the result of the polls that were going on until January 1st, 2011 at midnight.
First poll is "Is having Twitter updates, shown on my blog, helpful to get you the latest updates, as quickly as possible?" Five people voted Yes, and four people voted No.
Second poll is "Which Yu-gi-oh! text do you prefer?" 13 people voted for OCG text, and 11 people voted for TCG text.
Thank you all for voting.
Other comments:
I will be adding a bunch of stuff to this blog. Look forward to what I have in store for you.
OCG Ban List - September 2011
Well, since I won't be the only one posting about this, I may as well state my thoughts. Anyway, here's the list:
Forbidden:
Fishborg Blaster
Mind Master
Giant Trunade
Royal Oppression
Limited:
Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
Debris Dragon
Lonefire Blossom
Formula Synchron
Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En
T.G. Hyper Librarian
Heavy Storm
Pot of Avarice
Primal Seed
Shien's Smoke Signal
Semi-Limited:
Necro Gardna
Tragoedia
Summoner Monk
Destiny Draw
Swords of Revealing Light
Call of the Haunted
Mind Crush
Unlimited:
Judgment Dragon
Spirit Reaper
Megamorph
Mystical Space Typhoon
Overload Fusion
Gravity Bind
Icarus Attack
My thoughts on this personally is that Twilight is gonna be back, along with Dark World. People can use Dark World variants with Fabled splashed in to have Black Luster Soldier Envoy of the Beginning in the Deck. Decks got hit were the Plant Engine, Synchro Decks, and Six Samurai decks.
With this, I'll state what I'm going to build as Yu-gi-oh! decks:
Any Light & Dark Variants that I take interest in (which include Dark World/Fabled)
Ice Barriers, Vylons, Elecs,
Gladiator Beasts,
Merchant Turbo (again, to recount from this ban list)
Starting September and Yu-gi-oh! Ban List hopes
Well, normally I wouldn't take a look at how everyone's going to say whatever's going to happen to the Yu-gi-oh! Ban List as their hopes, but I have to state something that I found out very recently in Cardfight!! Vanguard.
  • Starting September, Barcgal cannot be selected as your Starting Vanguard.
So, with that said, I need to go through the Royal Paladin guides I set up, and rehash on how the builds are set up, because all of them have Barcgal as your Starting Vanguard.
As for Yu-gi-oh! expectations, I do have a few: (listed below)
  • Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning will go back to 1.
  • Necrovalley will become limited, because of how Gravekeepers use Royal Tribute, and how Deck Devastation Virus works with the deck.
  • Dewlorean will become semi-limited, because of the Symbols loop it has.
  • Bottomless Trap Hole will become unlimited, because there wasn't a point of it being semi-limited, other than the fact that probably most of the people at the time were using Bottomless Trap Hole as a chainable Trap to cards that destroy stuff (as a priority).
Other than that, I know more stuff will be hit, but I'm not that good with predictions. I just state what I thought should happen. Anyway, feel free to discuss about how Barcgal's restriction from the Starting Vanguard position affects your Deck, or how my Ban List hopes are.
Exceed Monsters (Thoughts) and (Speculated) March 2011 Ban List Thoughts
Well, it'll seem pointless for me to spend time discussing what has already discussed in the past 12+ hours, so I'm going to point out some other thoughts I had when viewing these monsters. If you want to view the actual info itself, go on Shriek OCG News and find out more. (EDIT: The picture below came from Yu-gi-oh! Wikia.)
As you know, it is a Rank 4 monster, so my thoughts were like this:
Can tokens be used for Exceed Summoning? Yes, this was speculation because I wasn't sure about a couple of minutes ago about tokens being used. Now, that it's clear, ain't it good to have 3 Phantom Skyblasters at this time? Because now, it's an instant 2500 ATK beater with little to no problems. So yeah, I'm assuming it's possible, until I hear otherwise. EDIT: It's not possible to overlay the Skyblaster Tokens with Phantom Skyblaster.
What about United We Stand and how many monsters that can be on the Field at one time? This is one question that I'm not even sure about. So, let me pull up the effect of United We Stand and bold, italics, and underline what I'm thinking about.
United We Stand
[Equip Spell Card]
Increase the ATK and DEF of the equipped monster by 800 points for each face-up monster you control.
What I'm considering is "Do these Overlay Units still be counted as monsters?" If so, then, instead of having 4000 ATK maximum increase that you can have out, you can have 10400ATK maximum increase. I just thought I might as well that out, so that you guys can be curious and ask questions. (EDIT: The overlay monsters do not count as monsters while they are treated as Overlay Units.)
Now for the speculated March 2011 Ban List that was posted by most bloggers already, so I thought I might as well comment on it:
Forbidden:
Goyo Guardian
Cold Wave
Mass Driver
Limited:
Honest
Dandylion
Blackwing - Kalut the Moon Shadow
Book of Moon
Gateway of the Six
Semi-Limited:
Card Trooper
Archlord Kristya
Spirit Reaper
Debris Dragon
Royal Tribute
Overload Fusion
Megamorph
Solemn Warning
Icarus Attack
Unlimited:
Chaos Sorcerer
Demise, King of Armageddon
Snipe Hunter
Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier
Gold Sarcophagus
Skill Drain
Ultimate Offering
Ok, I'm not going to preach about the list saying if it's bad or not, but I'll let you guys know of some thoughts I had when reading this:
Honest at 1 and Megamorph at 2: With Honest at 1, I don't mind focusing my Vairon build around getting Honest in the Graveyard fast, so that I can recycle it with Armed Changer. Not to mention this card from Extreme Victory (got this information of the Shriek page):
Assaulting the Weak Point
[Counter Trap Card]
Negate the activation of the effect of an Effect Monster that activates in the hand or Graveyard and remove it from play.
With this being out, I'm questioning if it's even worth it to run it in Vairons since Megamorph went to two.
Chaos Sorcerer at 3: Yeah, I can see this being used almost immediately. With the Exceed Monster (shown above) as a Light monster and Phantom Skyblaster being a Dark monster, I can see more decks being a Chaos variant.
Mass Driver at 0 and Ultimate Offering at 3: Is it me, or did people forget Cannon Soldier and Dark Ptera? I know it hasn't had much of an impact, but still....
I don't typically do this, but since some people were posting about it, I might as well join in and give my thoughts on the matter.
